Subject: Nurses’ National Day of Action: September 17

Dear UNA member,

We have some very exciting news!

At the June virtual convention of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions, delegates overwhelmingly voted in favour of organizing a national nurses’ day of action to press for better staffing, fair wages and safe workplaces. The day of action is set for September 17, just days before Canadians will head to the polls in the federal election.

Nurses across the country are overworked, exhausted and fed up with being disrespected and undervalued by their governments. We are done asking for basic respect, safety and fairness –we are demanding change!

Alberta nurses have so many reasons to join our colleagues from across Canada in this important fight.

Are you ready to stand up and demand action?

Visit the day of action website now to access resources and learn more.

You’ll find tips for local events, key facts on the nursing shortage, promotional materials for easy download, and more. We hope these tools will empower members and locals to organize events and actions on September 17.

It’s clear that our governments have lost sight of what matters. This is especially true here in Alberta. Yet, in the midst of an ongoing pandemic, no workers have more power to influence public sentiment and apply pressure than nurses.

Let’s be #FrontlineUnited and show decision-makers what nurse power looks like.

In solidarity,

Heather Smith
President
United Nurses of Alberta
