Albertans rally for safe staffing, safe patient care, and public health care

Alberta nurses joined their co-workers and supporters at more than a dozen Day of Action events held across the province on Saturday, January 25. United Nurses of Alberta members held information pickets, rallies and winter-themed events outside their worksites and in their communities to show their support for safe staffing, safe patient care, and public health care and call for respect for frontline health care workers.

Events and actions took place in Banff, Bonnyville, Calgary, Camrose, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Olds, Red Deer, St. Albert, Slave Lake, Two Hills, and Wainwright.

The Day of Action happened on the anniversary of an important milestone in UNA’s history - the start of the 1988 nurses' strike, which saw more than 14,000 nurses at hospitals across Alberta walk off the job, beginning the last province-wide strike by UNA members.
