UNA donates $20,000 to Red Cross efforts in earthquake impacted Syria and Türkiye

United Nurses of Alberta is supporting Canadian Red Cross efforts to provide humanitarian relief people impacted by the devastating earthquake in Syria and Türkiye.

UNA’s Executive Board approved two $10,000 donations to the Canadian Red Cross, which has been on ground to support people impacted by the 7.8 earthquake that struck south central Türkiye and northwest Syria on February 6, 2023.

More than 57,300 deaths were confirmed as of March 20, making this earthquake the deadliest in both countries modern histories. Following Turkey's call for international help, more than 141,000 people from 94 countries joined the rescue effort.

“There are significant humanitarian needs after the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, and I want to thank Canadians who have donated in support of the emergency response underway,” said Conrad Sauvé, president and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross, said in a press released on February 8, 2023.

Individual UNA members are encouraged to contribute online to Red Cross efforts.
