UNA members at Chinook Care Centre ratify first contract

Members of United Nurses of Alberta Local 425 working at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary have ratified a first collective agreement with their employer, Intercare Alberta Corporate Group Inc.

The first contract for members at the south west Calgary worksite sets salary at parity to the UNA Provincial Collective Agreement and includes a 1.25 per cent salary increase in the first pay period following September 1, 2022 and a 2 per cent increase in the first pay period following April 1, 2023.

Highlights of the contract include improved premium overtime provisions, solidification of seniority based on Date of Hire and portability to other worksites represented by UNA, introduces personal leave and professional fee reimbursement, and tying of vacation accruals to years, not hours, worked. The new contract also adds the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a named holiday starting in 2023.

UNA congratulates and thanks our Local and bargaining team members for their hard-work and solidarity during these long and difficult negotiations that resulted in enhanced mediation through the Alberta Labour Relations Board.

UNA provides a wide range of services to its members. A key role is negotiating the excellent collective agreements that regulate salaries, benefits, schedules and working conditions of members. UNA also administers its agreements to resolve disputes, improve working conditions and protect nurses’ workplace rights.
