COVID-19 Update: Full facility outbreak declared at Misericordia Community Hospital

United Nurses of Alberta has been notified by Covenant Health that the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton has been put on full facility outbreak due to ongoing transmission of COVID-19.

As of 8:30 am today, the hospital is closed and will not admit any additional patients. The Emergency Department is be closed to all EMS and walk-in patients.  No patients are being admitted to the hospital, and day procedures and visits are being postponed or rescheduled to another hospitals in Edmonton.

Covenant Health believes this step is necessary as part of the progressive outbreak restrictions put in place on July 6 to control any further transmission of COVID-19. As of this morning, there are 20 patients and 15 staff members at the hospital who have tested positive for COVID-19 in relation to this outbreak.

This decision impacts Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses represented by UNA Local 11 at the Misericordia Hospital. UNA Local 11 members with any questions or concerns should contact their Local Executive or Labour Relations Officer at 1-800-252-9394.
