Celebrating working Canadians on Labour Day

Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate workers and their hard-fought achievements and struggles in Canada since the holiday was first celebrated on the first Monday in September in the 1880s.

Today, nurses are leaders in labour movement in Canada. As the union for more than 35,000 Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and allied workers in Alberta, United Nurses of Alberta is an effective advocate for nurses, the nursing profession and Canada’s fair and efficient public health care system.
