UNA expresses concern about mistaken references to original AHS mandate
United Nurses of Alberta has expressed concern about mistaken references by government officials to Alberta Health Services’ original mandate.
In a letter to Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, UNA Labour Relations Director David Harrigan noted recent comments that by the government that AHS was intended to focus only on the delivery of acute care services.
“This is mistaken,” Harrigan said, pointing to the Government of Alberta news release published on May 15, 2008. That release stated: “The new governance model is intended to strengthen a provincial approach to managing health services, including surgical access, long-term care, chronic disease management and addictions and mental health services as well as health workforce and access to primary care.”
