Nurses at Extendicare Hillcrest vote to join United Nurses of Alberta

United Nurses of Alberta welcomes Registered Nurses employed at Extendicare Hillcrest in central Calgary to our union. Nurses at the worksite have voted to join UNA and the results of that vote were certified by the Alberta Labour Relations Board on May 10, 2024.

As soon as possible, UNA will meet with the new members and negotiate a first collective agreement for the nurses, who before the vote worked without representation by a union. UNA members employed at Extendicare Hillcrest have not yet been assigned a UNA Local number.

UNA already represents Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses employed at Extendicare Eaux Claires (Local 117), Vulcan Extendicare (Local 143), Extendicare Mayerthorpe (Local 143), Extendicare Holyrood (Local 168), Extendicare Leduc (Local 170), Extendicare Viking (Local 215), and Extendicare Cedars Villa (Local 422).

UNA provides a wide range of services to its members. A key role is negotiating the excellent collective agreements that regulate salaries, benefits, schedules and working conditions of members. UNA also administers its agreements to resolve disputes, improve working conditions and protect nurses’ workplace rights.
