UNA Local 183 to sponsor June workshop for psychiatric nurses

UNA Local 183 representing members at Alberta Hospital Edmonton and Community Mental Health Clinics is holding an education day for Registered Psychiatric Nurses on June 25.

Speakers Dr. Shirley Smoyak, a psychiatric nurse and professor of sociology at the Rutgers University College of Nursing, and Martin Ward, an author and editor on psychiatric nursing for nearly 40 years, will address the issues facing practitioners in 2013.

The seminar – “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Using the past to shape the future for Psychiatric Nurses" – will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, in the auditorium at the Alberta Teachers Association’s Barnett House, 11010 – 142 Street in Edmonton.

There is no charge for members of Local 183, a fee of $60 for nurses who are not members of the local, and a fee of $30 for students. Payment is made at the door by cash or cheque, but participants need to register by June 14.
