Deadline on Feb 28: Nominate a fellow UNA member for an AFL award

The Alberta Federation of Labour is seeking nomination submissions for the annual International Women's Day Award and the May Day Award: 

International Women’s Day Award – Nomination deadline February 28, 2013

The Award was introduced in 1990 to recognize a sister in the labour movement for her outstanding commitment and leadership in the trade union movement and community. Nominations should be directed to the AFL Women’s Committee (see attached for complete details). The Committee reviews all nominations and makes a recommendation to the AFL Executive Council. The recipient of the award is decided by the AFL Executive Council at its March 2013 meeting. The award ceremony will take place in April at the AFL 2013 Convention in Edmonton. 

May Day Award – Nomination deadline February 28, 2013

The annual May Day Solidarity Award was created in 1989 and is given to an Alberta trade unionist for his/her contributions in advancing workers’ rights within and outside the labour movement. Your nominees should be a union member or a group of individuals who have made a recognized contribution in the areas of peace, social justice and workers’ rights. Please include a detailed biography with your nominations, which includes specific contributions to the labour and social justice movements. All submissions should be directed to the AFL Executive Council (see attached for complete details). The recipient of this award will be determined at the March 2013 Executive Council meeting and the award ceremony will take place in April at the AFL 2013 Convention in Edmonton.

UNA Locals are encouraged to circulate this call so that many deserving members are recognized for their contributions and are nominated for these award.
